The Santa Decision

Spence and I have been trying to make the big Santa decision. Are we going to "do" Santa or not? Is it a lie to tell our children Santa brings toys? Are we squashing their imagination by not? To help us solve the dilemma, we conducted a test...

This Santa was a gift from some friends a few years ago. Zeke was seriously afraid of this guy. He wouldn't go on that side of our dining room while we had him out. We have now put Santa back in his box and stowed him in the garage.

Here is where we stand as of now. First and foremost we will teach our kids that Christmas is about JESUS. He knows who Santa is, but we haven't told him anything about him. We won't say he brings him presents, etc. We just say oh wow there is Santa. I mean a big guy in a weird red suit draws attention anyway, but Ethan has NO clue as to why he is special. We aren't going to be Christmas nazi's, but we aren't going to misplace the true meaning or lie to him about things. Hope this adds to your insight.

Are you kidding me right now? Please tell me that you're kidding right now... There is no replacing the true meaning of Christmas... it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ our savior. He is the captain of my ship my best friend the true meaning to life... there is no life without Him! And you know that there is no Santa but even still today you can't help but feel a little warm and fuzzy knowing that your parents loved and love you so much that they have all these years and still keep up the front of Santa. Being a kid that never got to celebrate Christmas as a child I see it as a huge injustice to your children! I never saw it as a lie I saw it as parents loving their children and creating a little magic during the Christmas season. I love watching my kids face on Christmas morning and I know that they know the the true meaning of Christmas has not one thing to do with Santa Claus or presents. Imagine with me if you will, your childhood with no Santa or the excitement of waking up with your brothers on Christmas morning? It's my opinion and I know we all got one but I'm just saying!

Can I just say... I'm afraid of that Santa too.. Do not limit Zeke's Santa experieces to that plastic toy...
I do know the meaning of Christmas.. I do believe in God, Jesus Christ and the true meaning of Christmas.. I also believe in the magic of Santa.. take him away and you may as well take away all nursery rhymes, Dr Suess, Sesame Street... I think the "use" of these things helps a child's imagination... you can go one step further with this whole "lie" thing.. take away your Harry Potter, Twilight, Wii games... how about taking away Guitar Hero? Hmm... Mario Cart, Spencer's golf and baseball games for the wii.. if those aren't fantasy.. I sure don't know what is...
Like Susie said.. I'm just sayin'
