1. You must love Jesus. I don't care if you're a "good Christian boy." I was one of those too. So I know the tricks. I'm going to ask you specific, heart-testing questions about your spiritual affections, your daily devotional life, your idols, your disciplines, and the like. I'll cut you a little bit of slack because you're young and hormonal and your pre-frontal lobe isn't fully developed yet, but I'll be watching you like a hawk. I know you. I was you. You will think you can fool me, and you likely have fooled many other dads who didn't pay much attention to their daughters' suitors, but I will be on you like Bourne on that guy whose neck he broke. Which guy was that? Every guy. So love Jesus more than my daughter or go home.

2. You will install X3Watch or Covenant Eyes on your computer and mobile devices and have your regular reports sent to me.

3. I will talk to your dad and tell him I will hold him responsible if you don't treat my daughter like a lady. If he thinks I'm a crazy person, you fail the test and won't get to date her. If he understands what I'm saying, that bodes well for you.

4. You will pay for everything. Oh, sure, every now and then my daughter can buy you a Coke or something and a gift on your birthday and at Christmas. But you pay for meals, movies, outings, whatever else. Don't have a job? I'm sorry, why I am talking to you again?

5. You will accept my Facebook friend request.

6. If it looks like you need a belt to hold your pants up, I will assume you don't have a job. See #4.

7. Young people dating are putting their best face forward, so if you appear impatient, ill-tempered, or ill-mannered, I know you will gradually become more so over time. I will have no jerks dating my daughters.

8. If I am not your pastor, I will talk to the man who is. If your pastor is a woman, why I am talking to you, again?

9. You don't love my daughter. You have no idea what love is. You like her and you mightlove her someday. That's an okay start with me, so put the seatbelt on the mushy gushy stuff. Don't profess your undying love, quote stupid love song lyrics to her, tell her you'd die for her, or feed her any other boneheaded lines that are way out of your depth as a horny little idiot. A lady's heart is a fragile thing. If you play with hers, I will show you yours.

10. If you ever find yourself alone with my daughter, don't panic. Just correct the situation immediately. If I ever catch you trying to get alone with my daughter, that would be the time to panic.

11. It may sound like I'm joking in threatening you harm, and while I might not physically hurt you if you offend my daughter or violate her honor, when I am addressing the issue with you, you will not be laughing.

12. You may think all this sounds very legalistic. That's fine. You can be one of the many antinomians not dating my daughter.

Jesus In my Place

I would like to invite everyone to the cd release concert for our Summit worship cd, Jesus in My Place.  I got my hands on a copy earlier this week and I haven't stopped playing it yet.  The songs are written by our worship leaders, and they are good.  We have been learning some of them during church and I am loving observing how our church is being led into worshipping our God corporately.  I feel like we as a congregation are learning so much about worship right now.
The night is going to be so cool.  I love all of our worship leaders and really love when they all come together to lead us.  The concert starts at 6 and is at the Summit's Brier Creek.  Our small group is going together and we would love to see you there as well.  For more info you can visit here.

Zoo day

We went to the zoo and met up with my brother Rik, Cindy and their girls.  Here are a couple videos from the day.  The first shows what Zeke did all day long.  He had strangers following him because of his tour guiding :)  The second video is what Ben thought of the river hogs.  Be ready to laugh a lot.

We gotta 2 month girl

Baby girl is 2 months!!  This girl is a snuggling, sweet smiling, roly poly love muffin.  We headed to the dr this morning.  She weighed 11 pounds 14 ounces (70%), 22 inches (20%), and her head is 45%.  I checked back at Zeke and Ben's stats, and she is right between them.  So, she is consistently hanging out there.  The nurse and doctor were both impressed with her.  She was smiley and chatty right up until we had to hold her legs down for the shot.  As soon as I picked her up, she stopped crying and was quickly back to herself.  So far the rest of the day has been spent snoozing and getting some extra loving from mama.

Farm Days

We attended NC State's Farm Days.  Basically, they open up one of the farms and have chickens, cows, a horse, tractors, knee high fields of grass, and some of their delish icecream.  It was fun, but what Spence and I realized is that it was a bit ridiculous for us to stand in line for 20 minutes to sit on a tractor, when the boys can go to YaYa and PawPaw's house and take a ride anytime they want.  Being a country girl, I just wasn't that impressed, but my boys loved it.  And hey, my parent's house doesn't come with the yum icecream :)  The funniest part was that the boys enjoyed running in the field more than any other part.  The Allison clan and us had to drag the kids away.  They loved rolling down the hill and hiding in the grass.

Pondering life

Easter 2012

Easter is my favorite holiday.  How could it not be?  The celebration of Jesus raising from the grave is the core of what our family believes.  How can we not celebrate that?  During the week leading up to it, we talked about Jesus dying for us and that he did not stay dead, but that he rose from the grave.  We sang "God's not dead" a lot.  We didn't talk much about bunnies, chocolate, jelly beans, or eggs.  Did we have all these things, sure.  Our they the focus of what we celebrate, nope.  We dyed eggs earlier during the week, had tons of egg hunts with our baskets and plastic eggs, and watched Veggie Tales Easter movie.  The boys got to go to stay with Nana and Bampa (with a visit to YaYa and PawPaw's thrown in too) for a night.  They went to Pop's house for an egg hunt with Will and Elizabeth.  Sunday, we got up and went to church.  After nap, the boys got to see what they got in their baskets (note to self: either do a "spring" basket instead or do baskets on Saturday).  We then rushed over to Abby and Chris' for dinner with them and the Rudolph family (no pics from that chaos- 6 adults and 9 kids ranging in age from 7-almost 2 months, of course we didn't have time to take a picture).  We thoroughly enjoyed our Easter weekend and hope you did too.

Turn-Offs: losing to Zeke at anything, being told no, leaving places before he is ready
Vices: still waking up at crazy hours, hitting in anger, throwing things when mad
Strengths: super snuggler, so funny, loves to help

Shows: he asks for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but doesn't really watch it.  He will watch Curious George or Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  He follows Zeke's lead and talksa bout Sid the Science Kid or Super Why, but doesn't really watch them
Books: library books, but no real favorite
Toys: sports stuff (golf clubs and balls, baseballs and bats, soccer), cars, the kitchen- he constantly makes us stuff
Activities: anything outside, writing, cooking with Mama

Words:
Ben keeps us on our toes by his funny phrasing and also his made up words.  Lately everything is "WAKADO!"  He also talks about stealing sunshines (from "You are my sunshine") or shadows (from Peter Pan).  He enjoys being silly and calling everyone by different names, Fred is a fave around here

How Ben is like...
daddy- loves anything athletic and outside, must.eat.as.soon.as.awake, such a TARHEEL
mommy- so grumpy when he wakes up, quick temper :-/

Treasuring Details of our 2 year old Ben
* early riser, if he wakes before the 5:00 hour we can typically get him back to sleep in bed with us, but most mornings he is up around 5:45

*does everything BIG
*adores Zeke and always wants to be with him
*was potty trained daytime in November and naps and nights in December, but has regressed some since Ellie came home
*misses his daddy so much while he is at work
*his clinginess is so much better, but he still asks me "hold you" often
*loves having friends over or going to play with friends.  he asks almost every morning where we are going that day
* wears 18 month pants, but they are getting a bit short on him

* LOVES Ellie and has really done such a great job transitioning.  We have really only had the hiccups of regressing with the potty (which can be annoying when we have to change his sheets a couple times in one night) He runs to get diapers, the boppy (or bobby as he calls it), her paci (he hasn't tried to put it in his mouth in a while now), or anything else we may need for her

* will get dressed faster if we tell him he is wearing a "daddy shirt" or "Max pants"

* started going pee pee standing up to be like "Evan and Brayden"

* can't wait until he is big enough to go to Awana like Zeke
